The Candlelight, a thriving dinner playhouse in Johnstown, is expanding with a new 900-seat theater and concert venue in Thornton. The proposed 32,000-square-foot facility, designed “in the round,” will offer a versatile space for hosting a variety of entertainment events including Broadway-style musicals, plays, and concerts. The location, situated in the Larkridge Retail Center in Thornton, CO, holds great promise for becoming a prominent cultural hub.
The new venue, along with The Candlelight in Johnstown and the Boardwalk in Fort Collins, will contribute to owner Dave Clark’s vision of expanding theater and entertainment options along the I-25 Corridor in Colorado. The expansion comes as The Candlelight enjoys success, selling out its family-friendly shows in 2022. The Thornton location will cater to a different demographic, tapping into the demand for concerts. Officials and residents are enthusiastic about the cultural and entertainment opportunities it will bring to the city.
“I am so pleased to learn that our city has been chosen for such an incredible facility,” Thornton Mayor Jan Kulmann said. “For years, residents and those of us on city council have sought to have a performing-arts space that would bring culture and entertainment opportunities to people in Thornton. This proposed new facility is on a scale well beyond what we could have imagined or accomplished with taxpayer dollars alone.”
