SUMMARY:Building a Successful Consulting Business in Uncertain Times
DESCRIPTION:Ninety percent of what is needed to create a successful consulting business in uncertain times (the COVID-19 environment) is unchanged from 2019; but\, the remaining 10 percent is critical to the success of both an existing or start-up consultancy in a post-COVID environment. \nThis presentation meets the needs of people with an interest in consulting or who have decided to open a consulting business.  It may also be useful for businesses entities considering hiring outside consultants as better understanding of those one works with nearly always improves productivity and the corporate bottom line. \nIn just one hour\, we will cover the ten important steps to start a consulting business and discuss a few challenges and opportunities for consultants in the COVID and post-COVID-19 environment.  This seminar is simply an introduction to becoming a consultant with a real business – not a hobby or part-time income opportunity.  SCORE has two lengthier options for those who later desire a more in-depth discussion of the topics presented in this brief exposure to beginning a consultancy. \nIndividuals who participate will quality for one-on-one mentoring with a SCORE mentor with a successful consulting business supporting major US defense contractors and top Washington\, D.C. law firms.  \nScore’s former Denver Chapter Chair\, Dave Garner\, is the author and presenter of this seminar.  Dave is retired USAF Colonel and a former senior executive service appointee in the Department of Defense who began his entrepreneurial journey as a teen selling knives door-to-door\, just like Mark Cuban. He has led a small PR company in NYC\, a management and security consulting company in Washington\, DC\, an international trade legal services consultancy\, and is a partner in a TV production company in Beverly Hills.  He has been a member of SCORE’s Denver chapter since 2014.  Dave is a certified expert advising the International Court of Arbitration on US International Trade Law. In his military service\, he commanded the 67th  Strategic Missile Squadron (ICBM) and served as Director of the Pentagon Press Office\, as Military Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of State for Politico-Military Affairs\, as Chief of Current Operations at Air Force Space Command\, and in numerous other positions in the US Air Force and in joint service commands.
